One of the finest paintings from Monet's celebrated Haystacks series, painted in the fields around his Giverny home across a full year and in all weather conditions. The golden light of late summer, the massive rounded form of the stack casting shadow over stubble, and the blue-violet distance are captured with a luminosity that amazed Kandinsky when he first saw the series in Moscow.
