A Guide to Art Transaction Types

Our warehouse system supports various transaction types to accurately track the lifecycle of art objects. Understanding these is key to effective collection management.

Inbound Transactions

  • Purchase: Acquiring art through purchase from a seller
  • Consignment: Receiving art on consignment from a collector or dealer
  • Return: Receiving art back from temporary outbound (repair, framing, exhibition, loan)

Internal Transactions

  • Internal Move: Moving art between locations within the warehouse

Outbound Transactions

  • Sale: Permanent sale of art (final state)
  • Disposal: Permanent removal from inventory (final state)
  • Repair: Sending art for restoration (temporary)
  • Framing: Sending art for framing (temporary)
  • Exhibition: Loaning art for exhibition (temporary)
  • Loan: Long-term loan to gallery or collector (temporary)

State Management

Items can be in one of three states:

  • IN_WAREHOUSE: Currently in our facility
  • OUT_TEMPORARY: Temporarily out (repair, framing, exhibition, loan)
  • OUT_FINAL: Permanently removed (sold or disposed)

This system ensures complete traceability and accountability for every piece in your collection.
